AUSTIN EMPTY BOWL PROJECT: NOV 18TH 11AM - 3PM: One of the first of its kind in Texas, the Austin Empty Bowl Project was founded in 1997. Attendees purchase a handcrafted bowl for $20, local restaurants fill it with soup and you stay and enjoy the music. Benefits the children’s hunger programs at Capital Area Food Bank and Meals on Wheels and More. www.austinemptybowl.org
THUNDERCLOUD SUB’S TURKEY TROT BENEFITING CARITAS: For over 25 years, the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot has benefited Caritas of Austin. In total the event has raised more than $3.3 million to support our work to end homelessness and provide people with the tools and opportunities to succeed. The run takes place on Thanksgiving Day each year, and there are plenty of ways you can get involved. www.caritasofaustin.org/events/turkey-trot/
H-E-B FEAST OF SHARING: NOV 20TH 4PM - 8PM: Feast of Sharing, taking place at the Palmer Events Center, is the largest community Thanksgiving meal in Austin. H-E-B provides 14,000 meals to hungry Austinites with the help of 1,400 volunteers who plate and serve food, do crafts with children in attendance, and many other tasks. All volunteers should expect to be up and moving around for their whole shift, and many jobs require carrying trays of food or drinks.www.heb.com/static-page/article-template/Feast-of-...
EL BUEN SAMARITANO: Hands for Hope Each year at Hands for Hope, more than 1,000 low-income families receive Thanksgiving care packages that include a frozen turkey, a pie, stuffing, fresh vegetables, and all the trimmings to prepare a memorable Thanksgiving dinner at home. www.elbuen.org/give
MEALS ON WHEELS AND MORE: Each year, Meals on Wheels has hundreds of home-bound Austin clients signed up to signed up to receive holiday meals. Not only are you delivering their Thanksgiving meal , but you are also giving them the comfort and company everyone should have on Thanksgiving. OPERATION TURKEY: NOV 15 - 22: What was started in Austin by Richard Bagdonas in 2000 is now in 10 cities across the country, serving more than 20,000 meals, clothing, and toiletries to the homeless and less fortunate Thanksgiving Day. You can also help collect and sort donations of clothing and toiletries. There are multiple days and various oppotunites to help you.
